WHAT IS AN APOTHECARY?
In ancient times, every Nemenhah village and settlement supported Huhntsiht Pehli ("healers," and ministers) well-versed in traditional plant and animal medicines passed down through the generations, people who would spend time discerning the nature of the sufferer's illness and then make the medicine themselves that they believed would aid the sufferer in their recovery.
Somewhat of a western-culture counterpart to the Huhntsiht Pehli, before modern pharmacies, apothecaries combined the roles of pharmacist, chemist, and herbalist—compounding treatments, advising patients, and often practicing rudimentary medicine in local communities. A well-stocked apothecary's shelves were once lined with handcrafted tinctures, herbal blends, and time-honored remedies—all carefully formulated with respect for nature’s medicine and local ecology.
Huhntsiht Pehli and Apothecaries once offered something truly special: health consultations, where expert practitioners and master herbologists guided individuals toward balanced, holistic wellness, and education in home-based healthcare for individuals and families, combined with simple, but effective, whole-plant medicinal remedies free of the fillers, dyes, gels, and chemical additives so common in most modern herbal supplements.
Restoring the ancient tradition, Huhntsiht Pehli today are ordained ministers within the Sacred Order of Lehb (Nemenhah Church) who are also qualified Naturopathic Doctors, Master Apothecaries, and traditional spiritual counselors whose skills and competence have been individually assessed and certified by a Pehli Council of their peers.

Founded in Nemenhah Religion - Restored to Modern Times
|
Nemenhah Religion, formally known as the "Tuhhuhl Nuhmehn" (also referred to as the "Sahaptan Healing Way,") and embodied within the Sacred Order of Lehb, was restored by Dr. Phillip R. "Cloudpiler" Landis through his translation of the Ayahtkuhyaht Nemenhah (Sacred Records of the Nemenhah People, previously known as the "Mentinah Archives"), a principle text which forms the basis for Nemenhah religious practice and ministry today.

Deriving wisdom from the lives and teachings of our Native American ancestors, as restored to modern times through our Sacred Records, we aspire to bring healing and relief of suffering to the Individual, the Family, the Community, Society, and the Planet.
